5 Simple Ways to Get More Visitors to your Website

1. Optimized Website Titles

Your website title should include the keywords you want to be associated with. For example, my demo website title includes my company name, physical location, and my industry, 'promotional products'.

According to moz.com, the optimal format is Primary Keyword - Secondary Keyword | Brand Name, and should be under 55 characters.

2. Cookie-Cutter Avoidance

Google loves original content, and hates duplicate content. So if your home page and 'About Us' text is generic, Google will penalize your website for not being unique.

Write sincerely about why you do what you do. You should include the industries you work with, the localties you serve, and the services you offer. This webinar goes into a lot more detail about what to include in your home page and 'About Us' page.

3. Creating Optimized Pages to Target Niches

This takes a little more work, but it's absolutely worth it. Identify the industries you specifically want to target; if you're in Texas, you probably want to go after utilities and farming, for example.

Make a list of these industries and then create a page on your website to promote your services for each one. So if you have a list of 20 industries, you need to create 20 pages.

The pages should include the name of the industry, and the service you provide to it, in:

  • The page title (that appears in the tab on your website browser)
  • The actual URL (i.e. promobuy.com/branded-pens-dentist-office)
  • The title of the page content
  • The actual page content

This makes this page much more likely to be found on a search engine results page than a non-specialized page. It's important that someone landing on this page takes some action, like clicks through to a product or completes a form, so the rest of the page should include products specific to the niche, and/or a 'contact us for a quote' form.

4. Write a Blog... Every Week

You'll get two key benefits from regularly writing a blog. Firstly, when you write a blog on, for example, the best corporate gifts to give to your star sales people, if someone searches that on Google, they're more likely to find your website. It also helps with your overall search engine visibility, as this quote from SEOBlog.com illustrates:

Google likes fresh, new content. The newer your content is, the more likely it is that the information is correct, up to date and viable. This means it’s as potent as possible the moment it goes up. The older the content is, the more likely it is to have lost some value as the world changes around it.

The second benefit is that when people visit your website, they'll see that you're an expert in your field; that you're engaged, and dedicated to providing great customer service. This builds purchasing confidence so you're more likely to win their business. #winning

5. Install Google Analytics

If you're not getting inquiries from your website, it might be that you're not getting many visitors. Equally it might be that you are getting a reasonable number of visitors, but something about your home page is putting them off from taking it any further.

Google Analytics will show you how many visitors you get to your website, and what they do when they get there. If your bounce rate (the number of people who visit your site and leave without clicking on anything) is higher than about 50%, then it's time to start trying out some new calls-to-action, changing the layout etc. to see if you can tempt them into sticking around.

Websites are NOT Crock-Pots

You can't just set them up and leave them. Well, you can, but you won't get significant amounts of business through your website if you take this approach.

If you really want to attract new customers to your website, you've got to invest time in it. Don't think of it as a chore - write about what you know and love, and tap into your passion!
